Events provide an opportunity to extend the curriculum, providing inspirational experiences.
International Women's Day was celebrated with a series of thought-provoking assemblies and talks.
We were delighted to host the Page Turners Gala in March, a celebration of books and reading attended by 180 pupils across 13 different schools, and were thrilled to be joined by authors Lauren James and Nicola Penfold who gave a valuable insight into the writing process.
Poet Nathalie Abi-Ezzi joined our new appointed Poet Laureates in March at a special breakfast event where the students discussed their ideas and drew inspiration from each other.
Science Week was celebrated with a series of hands-on events and talks. The theme of Time gave lots of scope for our students to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of science from engaging experiments to thought-provoking discussions. Dr Sweeney shared her experiences with aspiring medics in Years 10 and 11 with a enlightening talk on the reality of studying medicine at university with tips on the application process. Experiments and challenges were held each lunchtime, giving students the opportunity to explore science with hands-on challenges, from creating a camera obscura, constructing and launching water-powered rockets, to an iodine clock challenge that proved an entertaining way for Year 7 students to explore the idea of reaction rates. Budding engineers enjoyed designing and constructing a landing craft that would protect an egg dropped from a height, while rat dissection sessions were a very popular way for students to gain an insight into anatomy.
Our Year 13 students took part in a University Survival Workshop before they departed for study leave, to gain tips on cooking healthily on a budget.
