In April a selection of our year 7 and 8 students took the UK Mathematics Trust Junior Maths Challenge. This is an annual competition taken across the whole country which is a selection of mathematical problem solving questions designed to make students think. The questions encourage mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency.
The students who took the challenge did amazingly well and in year 7 there were 24 bronze certificates, 16 silver and 2 gold. In year 8 there were 120 bronze, 41 silver and 8 gold certificates. Those who gained a gold certificate were in the top 8.3% of the country, and so did remarkably well.
Well done to all involved.
