Speakers included Professor Sir Tom Shakespeare CBE discussing the Sociology of Disability, Kalwant Bhopal who is Professor of Education and Social Justice at the University of Birmingham discussing racism in society, and University of Kent's Dr Marian Duggan discussing her research on gender-based violence. 

Martha, Year 13 Sociologist had this to say about the day:

"On Monday the 25th November, my fellow sociologists and I travelled up to London, for a day of sociological lectures from various different speakers. The day covered topics from BLM, inclusion of disabilities in the sociology curriculum and religion in society. I particularly enjoyed Dr Marian Duggan’s talk, who’s well known for her work and participation in Clare’s Law,  and as an aspiring Law and Criminology student this talk really helped me nurture my passion for this subject. This was a great extra-curricular opportunity, and I would highly recommend it to future sociology students as it was a great way to explore and expand my understanding and knowledge into the Sociological world from experts in the field, outside of the classroom."

As always, our students' engagement and behaviour was exemplary, and this was an enriching day for our sociologists preparing for their mock exams in January.
