The heart of our ethos is to ensure that the students experience and learn to appreciate the awe and wonder of the subject as well as its importance for other subject areas, life in general and the world of work. Promoting enjoyment and curiosity as well as accuracy and fluency are at the forefront of our teaching. We use a variety of teaching methods including teacher exposition, group work, games, IT and research. We encompass the Thinking Schools ideology wherever relevant to enhance each student’s learning experience and develop their thinking.
All our schemes of work have been chosen to ensure that they are relevant to our students and provide the basis for a thorough preparation for GCSE during Key Stages 3 and 4 and the A2 examinations during Key Stages 4 and 5.
We do not enter students for examinations early but our curriculum is designed to build confidence as well as ensure challenge and stretch. Students in years 7 to 11 follow a curriculum that leads to the Edexcel GCSE award taken at the end of year 11. However, during years 10 and 11 topics will be extended using activities that give an introduction to AS concepts. This builds confidence and aims to smooth transition between the key stages.
